Today we talked more about cultural geography. We focused on ethnic groups and religions around the world. Ethnic groups can get along or fight. Some examples of ethnic groups that merge together and get along are United States and Switzerland. Religion can be a unifying or dis-unifying force. Religion is probably the biggest reason of all the world wars. It can bring people together like how Christians gather for a wedding or baptism. It can tear people apart and that what I meant when I said it is responsible for most of the wars around the worlds. We learned that the five most major world religions are Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The one that today we focused on the most was Christianity.

Christianity:

·         Founded around 30 AD

·         It is monotheistic because we believe in one God.

·          The holy book is the New Testament

·         There are about 2.1 billion followers

·         The central figure is Jesus Christ

·         The geographical concentration is North and South America, Africa, and Europe

Islam:

·         Founded around the year 632 AD

·         It is monotheistic because they believe they believe in one God

·         The holy book is called the Quran

·         There are about 1.5 billion followers of Islam

·         The central figure is Allah, which is translated to God

·         The geographical concentration is in the Middle East, Central Asia, Northern and Eastern Africa, and Central and Southern Asia

Buddhism:

·         Founded around the fourth century

·         It is monotheistic

·         They holy book is called the Tipitaka

·         There are about 360 million followers

·         The central figure is Buddha

·         The geographical figure is East and South Asia

Hinduism:

·         Founded around the year 1500 AD

·         It is monotheistic

·         The holy book is called the Veda

·         There are about 860 million followers

·         The central figure is God

·         The geographical figure is India

Judaism:

·         Founded around the year 2000 BC

·         It is monotheistic

·         The holy book is called the Torah

·         There are about 13 million follows

·         Some central figures are Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Jesus

·         The geographical concentration is Israel 

CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY

Today in Human Geo we learned about cultural geography. Cultural geography is part of everyday life, ideas, and themes which the group of people will teach to all members. These same characteristics can also link or divide a region. Some examples are language, religion, and ethnic heritage. Language is like how Arabic unites the Arab world meaning that most Arab people speak Arabic so therefor they are united. Same thing with the Spanish people. Most of them speak Spanish so the same rules apply. Switzerland has multiply languages but very little conflict between groups. English is now considered the world language and is use for most business transactions around the world. That is all the notes I got about cultural geography today. 

Presentations

                Today in Human Geo we gave our group presentations. Only the people who did Columbus did not present because there was not enough time so I guess we will being seeing that next class. My group did our PowerPoint on the Vikings but the document thing we needed for the answers wasn't working for anyone so we didn't have it complete. When it was our turn Matt and I read off another classes presentations. The other one was about the Native Americans. Here are some things I learned. They arrived here about 12,000 to 17,000 years ago. They got here by crossing the ice bridge that stretched from Russia to Alaska during the colder times. The reason they crossed it was because they were following a herd of mammoths. The Americans are known as hunters and gathers. They were the first to come to America as far as history tells us. They didn't have to fight to conquer America because there was nobody here. That doesn't mean that there was any fighting. They had to fight invading Europeans and sometimes even each other. They were not sent by anyone because they were just following the food. Most people believe that when the first arrived in Alaska they went to Canada. From that point they just poured down and populated the whole country of America and even South America.  

Vikings

Today in Human Geo, to celebrate and learn more about Columbus, we got into small groups. The groups were either Vikings, Columbus, or Native Americans. We had to make an open source document so our whole group could answer their questions. My group's document isn't working for me and I have try it recently and it still won't let me in. I don't know how to contribute to the assignment if I can get in. That's all we really did in class today, so I don't what to say. That rhymes.

TEST

Today we had our second test in Human Geo. The test was on the film we watched. The test was fill in the blanks which are my least favorite kinds of questions on a test. I did like the test because it answers make a bit of a story. I feel confident that I did well. I knew most of the answers right away but there were some where I didn't really know them. We were able to use or blogs but I haven’t been doing a great job of keeping up with that so I need to remember the answers. I am hoping that I only got one or two wrong but it feel like I did pretty well.

looking at foundations

Today in class we went over all the foundations that my fellow classmates put on the open source document. We were trying to find the ones we thought we could participate in. Most of them were about raising money for various places. Many of them sounded great and I think we should participate in as many as we can because we should be doing everything we can to make the world a better place for all.
